Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is not just a foot massage!

Treatment Room

Reflexology is a long standing complementary therapy. It works alongside conventional medicine. We incorporate the  holistic approach, which means we treat the person as a whole; mind, body and spirit.  Therefore, diet and lifestyle play a big part in how we are and how we feel and our overall general health and well-being.  Reflexology, when practised by a qualified person, may be a valuable addition in helping to maintain that sense of well-being.

Reflexology is the art of applying gentle pressure using fingers and thumbs on various parts of the feet (and hands if necessary). To a Reflexolgist these areas are points, which correspond to specific organs, glands and systems of the body. By using this gentle pressure, the effect is to stimulate a natural response from the body to relax. It is thought that this relaxation process can enable the body to re-balance through natural means. The benefits can be an increased sense of well-being, less tension in the mind and the body.

How can Reflexology help me?

We live in a very busy and stressful world – therefore any time taken to relax and reduce stress is of great benefit. Although, good for stress, Reflexology may potentially be helpful in managing a variety of health issues which could be stress related, postural or hormonal imbalance.

Reflexology may help manage a variety of chronic health issues such as headaches and migraine, asthma and hayfever, digestive disorders such as IBS.  It may help manage hormonal imbalances.  It can be particularly beneficial during pregnancy (excluding the first 12 weeks and a history of unstable pregnancy).  Reflexology is often a recommended therapy during palliative care.

What happens at a Reflexology Treatment?

You should allow approximately an extra 15 minutes for your the first visit, as an initial consultation/questionnaire will be done in complete confidence. The consultation will help to formulate your own personal treatment plan. On the first visit it will be very helpful if you could make a note of any prescribed medication that you might be taking together with dosages.

It is common to feel an increase in energy afterwards or just a general sense of calm and well-being. The treatment should be enjoyable and elating!
